Job Description Point of Care Lab Technician Position Summary
Under the Laboratory Manager's supervision, performs waived
laboratory tests in remote or mobile settings. Monitors reagent
quality and instrument functionality to ensure accurate results.
Essential Functions Receives specimens from phlebotomists/couriers
and enters patient demographics/test orders into the lab
information system. Operates delivery van for STAT testing in
high-volume areas when needed. Conducts quality control checks
before testing; reports issues to supervisor immediately. Performs
point-of-care testing (Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis,
Molecular, Coagulation); enters and verifies results, escalating
abnormals. Collects blood via venipuncture/capillary ; processes
specimens and logs requisitions. Monitors STAT board for timely
turnaround; maintains supply inventory with lot documentation.
Troubleshoots client/instrument/computer issues; performs
instrument maintenance and QC records. Handles clerical tasks for
specimen integrity/reporting ; follows all safety protocols.
Physical Requirements Frequent standing, handling, talking/hearing;
occasional walking, reaching, stooping (up to 15 lbs lifting).
Close vision, depth perception required (no color deficiency).
Exposure to blood-borne pathogens/hazards with provided training.

Pushing/pulling 50–100 lbs (reduced with ramps/pulleys); occurs
16–24x daily in facilities/homes. Education & Experience High
school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver's license with clean
record. Lab process familiarity; phlebotomy/lab testing experience
preferred. State-specific certification (CA: licensed MLT/LVN for
waived testing). Excellent communication, detail-oriented,
precise.
