The Role
Pilot, a successful startup, is hiring a senior engineer for our Accounting Engine team.
All of our teams have unique charters to build software, services, and systems that enable Pilot to deliver a high-quality experience profitably at scale. The Accounting Engine team enables Pilot to develop our bookkeeping service based on real-time customer financial data.
Pilot aims to empower our customers with the capabilities of large companies' finance teams-deep financial insights, continuous improvement mechanisms, and predictive planning-delivered at a fraction of the cost through powerful software.
Our backend is built in fully typed Python 3.1, with a frontend in JavaScript, TypeScript, and Vue.js. We utilize Terraform for infrastructure management, Docker containers on ECS for deployment, AWS CodeDeploy, Honeycomb for monitoring, and Postgres as our database.
Key Responsibilities

• Build, test, and deploy software continuously (deployments occur daily or more often).
  
• Collaborate with PMs and Product Designers, participating in product and design reviews.
  
• Create and contribute to technical specifications and testing/rollout plans.
  
• Work with internal stakeholders to ensure problem-solving aligns with business needs.
  
• Mentor and support teammates to foster growth.
  
• Collaborate across teams to shape the future of engineering at Pilot.
  
• Support your software and services as needed.
  
  About You
  While experience with our specific technologies is not mandatory, we value:
  

• 
  
• 7+ years of experience as a software engineer.
  
• Experience with Python in a production environment.
  
• Ability to work collaboratively across functions.
  
• Strong communication skills-written, verbal, and technical.
  
• Ability to write well-structured, tested, and maintainable code.
  
• Proven mentoring and teaching abilities.
  
  Specialized backgrounds in accounting, fintech, or related fields are a plus.
