The Clinical and Translational Research Unit (CTRU) laboratory at Stanford University, is the institute's largest, research focused, ambulatory care and laboratory services group offering both adult and pediatric bedside, phlebotomy, dietary and laboratory services across the research community. The CTRU laboratory designs and collaborates on studies, both locally and globally, supporting research across a broad range of platforms including proteomics, immunology, genomics, cancer and much more. The CTRU is a primary backbone for accelerating the translation of bedside diagnostics and treatments and advancing research technologies into clinical applications. Learn more at We are seeking a Life Sciences Research Professional to perform basic laboratory and administrative support duties related to the collection and processing of human samples which principally involve purification and characterization of human biospecimen derivatives, from both biofluids and tissue/tumors for defined research projects and clinical research studies including those from COVID-19 studies in BSL- 2+ certified laboratories. Candidate will also work with the team to conduct and analyze experimental procedures and may contribute to the establishment of new procedures in the CTRU lab. Work will be conducted under supervision of the CTRU Lab Supervisor/s. This full-time, benefits eligible position will be primarily based at our Palo Alto, Arastradero Road site, but may work across all CTRU sites and may require periodic late weekday and/or weekend work. The appointee must agree to flexibility with working hours based on research and operational requirements. A heavy emphasis on attention to detail and ability to multitask efficiently and accurately will be required. Duties include: Support and assist with planning and conducting and validation of experiments for a range of clinical studies to improve existing and creating new lab SOPs Isolation, expression, and purification of human cells from whole blood and tissue/tumors. Preparation of single-cells for analysis via flow cytometry followed by genomic expression analysis (RNA). Review literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with new procedures and related research. Offer suggestions regarding modifications to procedures and protocols in collaboration with faculty investigators and other labs. Maintain detailed records of laboratory work and outcomes. Help with general lab maintenance as needed; maintain lab stock, manage chemical inventory and safety records, and provide general lab support as needed. Along with assistance from Supervisor and senior staff, help orient and train new staff or students. - Other duties may also be assigned DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related field. Highly motivated, dedicated, and independent. Strong team player. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Microsoft office suite or ability to learn new software. Organizational skills to troubleshoot unplanned situations while still meeting established deadlines. The ability to communicate both in writing and verbally. Capable of independent and self-motivated work to complete tasks with minimal direction. Must maintain punctuality, good attendance and flexibility to work hours when study subjects are scheduled. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED): Bachelor's degree in related scientific field. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED): General understanding of scientific principles. Demonstrated performance to use knowledge and skills when needed. Demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge of science principals to problem solve work. Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes. General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications. Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance. Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work. CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES: None PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds. Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts. Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls. Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job. Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours. Ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in a dusty, dirty, and odorous environment.
